Formula and methodology
Depth inches are divided by 12. Cubic feet equal length × width × depth; cubic yards equal cubic feet ÷ 27. Optional weight equals cubic feet × entered density.
Worked example
A 30 ft by 10 ft area at 4 inches contains 100 cubic feet or 3.704 cubic yards. At a supplied 100 lb/ft³ density, it weighs about 10,000 lb.
Assumptions and limitations
Aggregate type, gradation, moisture, compaction, subgrade, and supplier measurement affect volume and weight.
