Spacing is a maximum; the final span may be shorter. Each gate adds one post to the simple continuous run.
Formula and methodology
Spans = ceiling(length ÷ spacing). Posts equal spans + 1 + gates.
Worked example
A 100 ft run at 8 ft spacing needs 13 spans and 14 uninterrupted posts. Two gates make the simple estimate 16 posts.
