Boards are assumed to run along the entered deck length.
Formula and methodology
Width plus gap is converted from inches to feet. Rows equal deck width ÷ coverage. Linear feet equal rows × deck length; divide by board length, apply waste, and round up.
Worked example
A 16 by 12 ft deck with 5.5-inch boards, 0.125-inch gaps, and 16 ft boards needs about 409.6 linear ft or 25.6 boards. With 10%, 28.16 rounds to 29.
